Statements made by some of our clients

I’m not much of one to review massage therapists or anyone in the medical field really. Unless they change my life and my way of living.  I have had deep buttock pain for about five years now, to the point where it is painful to just sit. And putting pressure on it is absolutely excruciating. Previous diagnoses have included anything from Piriformis Syndrome to it being my SI joint to one leg being shorter than the other.  Before I met Doug, I had been through 2 rounds of physical therapy, 2 chiropractors, another massage therapist, a couple physiatrists as well as a couple dr’s that I don’t remember their titles, but they were more than happy to inject me with botox, cortisone, prick me with needles from the waist down and send electric currents through my legs. One did however, determine it was my gemellus muscles and not the piriformis that was the source of my pain. So fastforward, my 2nd physical therapist had run out of ideas, but didn’t want to tell me she had no idea what to do next, so just kept scheduling more appts. After getting discouraged and realizing I would have to figure out my next move myself, I started my search for another massage therapist. I came across Doug’s website, then Peak Performance, and emailed him about my pain and lack of results. He emailed back and said he’s worked with these muscles with a lot of runners (which I am, but didn’t mention) and asked when I could start.  When I went in for my first visit, I felt optimistic after talking to him for a bit, but found it interesting he didn’t dive into all of my past medical records, exercise routine and most importantly didn’t tell me I needed to stop running immediately. I would later find out, rather than focusing on the past, Doug really listens to the body and focuses on making changes to what’s the source of the problem. We went through our first hour and like many massage therapists he found all of my points that were incredibly painful, but it was after the appt that was most memorable. I got up and did not feel like an old woman…I didn’t know I had felt like an old woman, but I could finally say I felt like I was 24. How I should feel J So began the next few weeks of treatment – each week feeling better and having more lasting results. My low back was feeling better, including my SI Joint, which was painful, but not the worst pain. After a few months, the pain in my buttock was not feeling much better, but Doug had a diagnosis. His belief was my sacrum and coccyx were pulling to the side and the coccyx was twisted, causing the pulling on the gemellus muscles and hence the pain. Makes sense. Since I was not getting the desired result –still great results overall – I suggested that I start acupuncture, since that’s really the only thing I had not tried. Doug said he felt I needed to go to a chiropractor, so after a bit of moaning, I conceded. He referred me to Dr. Hajari here in Vancouver, WA, a great Dr. in his own right. At this point Dr. Hajari has done xrays, which show the coccyx & sacrum misaligned, as Doug thought. How the previous dr’s did not see it in the Xrays and MRI’s, I can’t quite figure out. Regardless, he has started me on a program of adjustments to realign everything and so far so good. Without Doug’s attention to detail and determination to make me better, rather than keeping me for as many visits as possible to make as much money as possible, I may still be without an accurate diagnosis, sending money down the drain.
